2010
Flash On The Beach 2010 is about three weeks ahead. Last year was the first time for me to join the event in Brighton. I found it very useful, inspiring and not to forget: made new friends with interesting people. I am glad to find myself going there again this year. I find must-see lists useful and fun. It is nice to read people's thoughts on different speakers and topics when scheduling your own event. I hope to see more must-see lists around... Here is mine:
Sunday 26th Sept:
Workshop: Art from AS3 - James Paterson
Yiihaa, I will start my trip early and participate in a workshop on Sunday. James Paterson has done interesting work and projects: Presstube, InsertSilence... Haven't ever been listening to his sessions, but I saw him for the first time on DVD with Colin Moock and Hoss Gifford. I had fun learning AS3 things in new way. I am really looking forward to his workshop and learn more new.
Monday 27th Sept:
Conrad Winchester: Robotlegs And Signals - A Match Made In Heaven?
Been doing some experiments with Robotlegs and I really started to love it. So, it'll be interesting to hear more. Or should I go to see Grant Skinner's: ADHD FTW, LOL!!!. Oh, I don't yet. ;)
Andre Michelle: Pulsatile Crackle
I haven't done any audio programming myself, but I like all the experiments with music and audio stuff. Andre's session last year was fun and I have found myself many times playing with AudioTool or ToneMatrix after that. Cool.
Two very interesting session and speakers at the same time. Quasimondo was Connecting the Dots last year. I liked the way he was connecting his works to mathematics. This year his topic is maybe a bit provocative, but still interesting: So Long, and Thanks for All the Flash. Another interesting session by Lee Brimelow at the same time: Developing for the Mobile Web. Mobile and HTML5, ftw? Two different kind of sessions and two interesting bloggers. Should decide between these two.
One of the best moments I had in FOTB last year were the inspired sessions. I think I need to hear Design and Happiness by Stefan Sagmeister.
Tuesday 28th Sept:
The Elevator Pitch
Elevator Pitch was so much fun last year that you cannot miss this. 20 speakers, 3 mins each!
Joa Ebert: 1 1 7 11 21
If you are into technical stuff (at least interested in seeing someone who's into). I think you should see this.
Julien Vallee: Storytelling, playfulness and experimentation
Brendan Dawes: Maker of Things
Cannot miss the inspired sessions.
Wednesday 29th Sept:
Ralph Hauwert: UnitZeroOne :: The Discontinuity
...the practical and conceptual ideas behind his ventures into creative coding. Sounds fun.
Jeremy Thorp had a very good talk last year about his Twitter and NYTimes API visualizations: GoodMorning! / Hacking the Newsroom. One of these data visualization sessions this year will be by Doug McCune: Data Visualization Will Change Your Life. The same time with Ralph Hauwert... I will decide at the last moment ;)
Have to leave home quite early on Wednesday. I hope this year all the sessions will be online afterwards. I'd like to see Jared Tarbell's The Computational Artifact -session, because it's has been fun to see the projects he has been introducing on his site. Just wow.
Cannot wait.
